Downland and TX Soil Sisters celebrate Soil Revival in Texas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STONEWALL, TX – Downland, a fintech startup specializing in business succession for food and farm businesses, proudly sponsored the TX Soil Sisters Soil Revival Social and BBQ at Windy Bar Ranch in Stonewall, Texas. The inaugural event brought together farmers, ranchers, land stewards, and conscious consumers for an afternoon of fellowship, education, and community building around soil health solutions in the Texas Hill Country.
The event raised nearly $3,000 for TX Soil Sisters' "Hands in the Dirt" Regenerative Soil community education program, currently being designed and beta-tested in Caldwell County in collaboration with Main St. Gardens, Lockhart ISD, Apogee Lockhart, and Caldwell County AgriLife Extension Services. Funds will support garden infrastructure and rainwater capture system installation.
"The Soil Revival Social and BBQ was a magical event," said Crystal Nuding, co-founder of TX Soil Sisters, LLC. "The Windy Bar Ranch property itself and the hospitality of Michael Klein are a first-class example of regenerative agriculture and the supportive nature of this movement. Paradigm-shifting, innovative products were presented with excitement for the brighter, healthier future of agriculture."
Attendees enjoyed award-winning, regeneratively raised Windy Bar brisket and BBQ ribs prepared by David's Old-Fashioned Pit BBQ from Fredericksburg, live music, and a silent auction featuring donations from event sponsors. The gathering provided opportunities to explore practical soil health solutions through conversation, demonstration, and shared expertise.
Jessi Roesch, Founder and CEO of Downland, presented on succession planning and land access for farmers. "We're thrilled to support TX Soil Sisters in their mission to educate communities about soil health and regenerative practices," said Roesch. "Events like the Soil Revival create vital connections between experienced landowners and aspiring farmers, which aligns perfectly with Downland's work in facilitating generational land transfers."
"It was great to have Downland's presence in the group alongside the other experts and interested farmers, ranchers, and consumers," Nuding added. "These are the hearts and minds we need in the same room to save Texas farms and ranches."
The event featured live demonstrations of innovative agricultural technologies, including FireHawk Bioherbicide, a natural weed control formula donated to the silent auction by parent company Biosolutions USA, and the first public demonstration of Akala 'Miracle 6,' a heat and fire-resistant hemp-based formulation with applications for farmers, ranchers, homeowners, and fire departments.
"The Soil Revival Social and BBQ was the culmination of an idea to bring area farmers, ranchers, land stewards, and conscious consumers together to explore soil health solutions through conversation and fellowship," said Johanna Nuding of TX Soil Sisters. "We're grateful to Downland, FireHawk Bioherbicide, and AKALA USA for believing in our vision and participating in the inaugural event. Through show-and-tell, thoughtful questions, sharing specific problems, and exploring ideas and practical solutions, Texans are in this together to protect and improve our land and strengthen our local food systems."
With over 70% of US farms set to change hands in the next two decades, Downland emphasizes the importance of creating spaces where knowledge, resources, and relationships can flourish to maintain farmland in agriculture. The company helps aspiring farmers prepare for farm ownership while supporting retiring farmers in understanding their goals, creating financial and legal tools that enable both parties to work together fairly and transparently.
Through partnerships like this, Downland continues to build the network and resources necessary to ensure America's farmland thrives under the stewardship of skilled, sustainability-focused farmers.
